Remember, we are only 2-3 hours away from London’s airports. We are an hour and a quarter from Inverness, its airport and train station. It is a constant source of astonishment that, when the scenery is at it’s finest and the weather frequently very pleasant, that there are no visitors’ cars anywhere. This quiet is itself very precious and attractive.

If you coming from the South following the Google directions (by clicking on the blue marker) it will take you on the B9176. It also climbs to a point above the Dornoch Firth from which a memorable vista may be observed.

IMG_0320After Ardgay you pass the grey stone pillars of Invercharron Lodge and then begins to run parallel to the railway. Crossing first over the river and then over again at Culrain Station, the road now passes the lane to Culrain village on the left and remains straight , passing the gates of Carbisdale Castle.

For a further 4 miles the road winds along in the shadow of the hills until abruptly starting to climb away from the trees and the water across open moorland. Just after attaining the summit it re-enters the trees and after a few yards the stone wall of Strathkyle appears, set back to the left had side.
